Has your Course Rep gone that extra mile? Have they been outstanding in helping you get to the best possible solution to your problems? Are they a reliable face around campus? Do they send you those amazing and informative emails that make studying that little bit easier?

If you do, then you should nominate your Course Rep for the "Course Rep of the Month" Award! Course Rep of the Year

Name: Amanda Ross

Course: International Hospitality Management

Faculty: Faculty of Social Sciences

Level: 6

Amanda was nominated by 20 individuals who believed that she has been a fantastic student representative for 3 consecutive years. Students described her as a hard working individual who has a positive and passionate approach to her role as a course representative. Those who voted for Amanda sang her praises with one student commenting, ‘I cannot commend Amanda enough for her dedication and commitment to her role as course rep’. Amanda has worked hard to make sure students feel a sense of belonging to the course and University and ensure their voices are always heard.

Name: Johannah Sangster

Course: Musical Theatre and Drama

Reason for winning:

Johannah has gone out of her way and created a survey to collect anonymous feedback from students and relayed responses to course and module leaders. In addition, Johannah has created a group chat outlining her aims as a course rep and has encouraged students to get into contact with her.

Faculty: Faculty of Education Health and Wellbeing

Level: 6

Reason for winning:

Arzaq has attended a faculty meeting, she gathered and providing student feedback and concerns for the meeting. In addition, she has effectively and proactively distributed information from peers to her tutors and from her tutors to her peers. Furthermore, Arzaq has affectively actioned the requests of students, one example being the organisation of a workshop to benefit students on her course.

 

Name: Richard Barnes

Faculty: Faculty of Arts

Level: 6

Reason for winning:

Prior to attending the course committee and faculty council meeting, Richard has organised drop in sessions and lecture shout outs in order to collect student feedback and concerns so that they can be raised in the meetings. In addition he has maintained good communication with both his lecturers and peers.

Name: Edda Nicolson

Faculty: Faculty of Social Science

Level: 5

Reason for winning:

Edda has maintained regular email contact with student on her course and has actively distributed information between her peers and her lecturers trying to close the feedback loop on her course. In addition, as a result of student feedback Edda has been proactive and has set up a history society, created a Facebook page and a Twitter feed, @WLVHistorySoc. The goal to keep in contact with students and to keep them posted about meetings and to retweet articles, pictures and links that students on the course may find interesting, along with increasing the social aspect for students on that course.

Reason for winning:

Although Helen faced many obstructions to become a course rep she has continued to represent her fellow students throughout the start of the academic year. Additionally, she has maintained regular contact with her faculty rep and has taking it upon herself to deal with some issues internally. Helen has been nominated for the Course Rep of the Month by a fellow student who had the following to say, ‘I think the very fact that this student has taken it upon herself to represent students on the course despite obstruction is commendable’.

Reason for winning: Johannah has continued to represent the joint students across two subject areas exceptionally well at meetings and through her multipe communication tools. Johannah has also created a Course Rep report which has been extremely useful to show faculty staff evidence and feedback from students. She has also been in regular contact with her Faculty Rep and supported many projects being run by the Students Union.
