Policy statement

European Law requires websites to ask for your consent before placing cookies in your browser, the software you use to surf the web. The website www.wolvesunion.org and www.wolvesunion.org/volunteercentral do not currently have a policy regarding cookies and this is needed to comply with European directive.

Scope and purpose of the policy

This policy deals with cookies used on www.wolvesunion.org and www.wolvesunion.org/volunteercentral Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer when you visit some websites. They are used by most websites to let you log in, translate, purchase goods and other actions.

The University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union uses cookies on www.wolvesunion.org and www.wolvesunion.org/volunteercentral to help enhance the user experience but also cookies are essential for the websites to function properly and to make sure the site meets the needs of the users who visit it.

Cookies have to be included to allow users to make purchases, save their on-site accessibility requirements (such as changing the size or colour of the text on the website), for students to log in using their university ID, to make purchases on the sites, for Google Analytics to take none identifiable information about users to help us understand our audience more appropriate content can be created and for students to share events on social media. This list is not exhaustive.

Users can disable any cookies already stored on their computer, but these may stop the website from functioning properly.

A small pop-up will appear on both websites saying that we use cookies. If users do not agree to have cookies stored on their browser then the user will be directed away from the site. There will also be the option for users to view this policy on the site and more specific information on which cookies are stored on the site.

Personnel responsible for implementing the policy

Senior Management has overall responsibility for the effective operation of this policy, but has delegated day-to-day responsibility for its operation to Marketing and Communications Coordinator. Responsibility for monitoring and reviewing the operation of this policy and making recommendations for change to minimise risks also lies with the CEO.

Monitoring and review of this policy

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator in conjunction with the Senior Management shall be responsible for reviewing this policy annually to ensure that it meets legal requirements and reflects best practice.
