Name: Shawna Bolton

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Confident, Hard-working & Dedicated

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?:

My experiences as a mature, full-time, international postgraduate research student, coupled with my two-and-a-half year involvement as a Postgraduate representative to the Student Management Board and Postgraduate administration has offered me great insight about the academic experiences that students attending this university encounter.  In 2010, I co-founded the Facebook group, “PhD Werewolves,” which was established as a forum for research students to reach out to one another for social and academic support.  At the start of the 2013/2014 academic year, we officially registered with the Student Union and since then, have worked together to successfully and dramatically reduce 4th Year fees for research students.

I am a firm believer that education is the gateway to better opportunities and that the student voice is essential to shaping our experiences.  As Academic VP, I will ensure that all students receive the quality education they expect and pay for; and that home and international students receive the support they need to effectively achieve their academic goals in a constructive environment.  Ultimately, I aim to improve the academic experience of all students and instil a sense of accomplishment and pride.  I look forward to serving you all with great fervour. One love!

Name: Hannah Cooper (Student Bodies)

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Sociable, Enthusiastic & Dedicated

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?:

The Students’ Union has been my second home during my time at University and I can honestly say if it weren’t for it, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Since coming to the University in 2011, I have been a Representative. I started off as a Course Representative, then a School Representative and in this academic year a Faculty Representative.

While in these positions I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience which I feel has prepared me for becoming Academic VP. The main reason I got involved in the first place was to help students have a voice and improve their time at University, by becoming Academic VP I can do this on a University wide scale.

As Academic VP, I will:

- Fight for all students’ academic needs.

- Represent all students’ issues to the University.

- Ensure that every student has a voice and that it is heard.

As Academic VP, I want to:

- Improve communication between lecturers, so that modules run smoothly along side each other.

- Promote the Students’ Union services, so that every student knows they have the opportunity to enhance their University Experience.
