Institute of Education Updates

Update

Before I begin this update, I would like to make you aware of the University's advice page regarding Coronavirus. This page is updated regularly with valuable information that can be found here: https://www.wlv.ac.uk/news-and-events/coronavirus/. I would also like to make you aware of additional services that can provide emotional and wellbeing support during this difficult time; you can use the CAM Messenger text service (Text CAM to 85258) and/or contact the Samaritans (Jo@samaritans.org or 116 123).

Hello there!

I hope you are keeping well and have a lovely (and safe!) bank holiday weekend.

SU Awards

On Thursday 7th May, the first Virtual Students' Union Awards event was held. This event was a huge success and delivered messages of positivity, inspiration and appreciation for all the hardworking students and staff within our faculty and the University. I would like to say a humungous thank you to all the staff and student members who participated, to all the students who made nominations and to everyone who viewed the event live with us and left heartwarming comments. Congratulations to those who were nominated and those who won! It was truly a wonderful event and beautifully constructed. I would also like to say an extra special gigantic thank you to Liz, Kayleigh and Jen, who went above and beyond to make this event amazing, working tirelessly to put everything together so that we could still recognise the achievement within our institution. I am extremely proud to work with such motivated and hard-working people who put the Student Voice first and somehow strive within such challenging conditions.  The SU Awards video is available on the Wolves SU facebook page and other socials where you can see nominations, shortlisted nominees and our winners. Congratulations to every who was nominated, who won and those who continue to work with the student voice in mind.

Continuing the celebration...

I would also like to share my pride and unconditional love for my colleague Jacqui, who won the Pastoral Card award. Jacqui is amazing not only as reception co-ordinator but as a manager and a friend, who embodies support and advocacy. I have been privileged to work alongside her in my three roles within the SU and can not state enough how much of a treasure Jacqui truly is! Congratulations Jacqui and thank you to the fantastic staff who were nominated within that category.

Back to business

Thank you to those who have sent feedback of your online resources during this time. I am currently collating this information and will be actioning it accordingly. I am also still holding virtual drop ins (drop me an email for full details) and have enjoyed my morning tea with a new few faces! I'm still available to offer support during this time and as always I'm open to your recommendations. Course reps will begin to receive emails regarding further ways we are trying to support the Student Voice and events/activities which have been implemented already. Please check your uni email! I have limited means to contact you guys, so please get your peepers in your uni inbox! You'll also be receiving University updates there too, so it's worth a gander. I will be 'meeting' to discuss feedback in the current weeks and welcome you to email with any thoughts, experiences, recommendations or comments you have regarding your university experience. This includes pre- and during the current climate.

I look forward to hearing from you at aurora.evans@wlv.ac.uk and as always, sending positive vibes.
