Are you studying or staying on campus late? Familiarise yourself with University safe walking routes and the Walking Bus programme to help ensure personal safety.

This includes:

  • Try to stick to the University’s Safer Walking Route.
  • Try to avoid being out on your own after dark
  • Use well-lit and busy streets
  • Do not take short cuts along dark alleys or wasteland
  • Walk facing the traffic to prevent cars pulling up behind you where practical
  • Be aware of where you are, look for street or building names in case you have to phone for help

The Walking Bus was introduced by the Students' Union to address concerns from students who were worried about thier safety leaving the University at night, in collboration with the Harrison Learning Centre and Campus Security.

The Walking Bus aims to leave the Ground Floor of the Harrison Learning Centre, on the hour, ever hour between 11pm - 3am so that students do not have to walk back to halls alone, but walk together as a group. Between those hours, if a student needs to leave but cannot wait until “the hour”, they can ring Security on ext: 2106 and request an escort (dependent on availability).

University security can be contacted on 01902 322106 or visit the security pages on the website for more advice and information.
