So you’ve had tonnes of emails from random companies asking: ‘Can we still be friends?’ ‘Is this the end?’ ‘Still want updates?’ and you have no idea why?
The new data protection law GDPR will come in to effect on the 25th May 2018. The new European Law replaces the old Data Protection Act (1998). It requires organisations to obtain consent from you rather than opting-out or pre-ticked boxes.
So what does it mean for Wolves Students’ Union? It means that from September you’ll need to opt-in to be a member of the SU, to make sure you can still benefit from all our services and support.
We’ll be working behind the scenes to make sure we are complying with the new law. You can find out more about GDPR from the Information Commissioner’s Office.
