Over 80 student leaders and staff gathered at the first Student Leaders’ Conference to share ideas and network with their peers. This was also the launch of the School Reps platform at the Students’ Union.
Key speakers included Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Julia Clarke who shared the University’s vision for 2030, asking students for feedback. Kunal Swali, Employer Liaison Manager presented a session on the importance of students as ‘Co-creators’ and Professor Phil Gravestock, Dean of the College of Learning and Teaching discussed the importance of support and enhancing the student success with a focus on BAME Attainment.
The aim of the event was to bring both students and university staff together and provided the opportunity to discuss issues and concerns that are happening within the student environment and working together to find ways to resolve them.
Jen Cotter, Academic Rep Co-Ordinator said: “Student Leaders are at the heart of what we do as an SU, and we want to make sure all of our school and course reps are equipped to carry out their roles to the best of their ability.
“The conference as a great starting point in putting faces to names and allowing students to listen to the plans that the University have on their strategy as well as the efforts they are taking in helping shorten the BAME Attainment Gap.”
