Together let's vote for SKY
"Hey everyone! My name is AkASH ADHIKARI (SKY )and I am international student and I'm running for Vice President Diversity position in the Student Council.
As a candidate for Vice President Diversity of the student union, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment where every student feels valued, respected, and represented. My manifesto outlines key initiatives and principles that I will champion if elected:
1. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion: I will work tirelessly to promote diversity and inclusion across all aspects of campus life. This includes advocating for policies and practices that support underrepresented groups, organizing events that celebrate diverse cultures, and collaborating with student organizations to amplify diverse voices.
2. Supporting Marginalized Communities: I will prioritize supporting marginalized communities on campus, including but not limited to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, and international students. I will advocate for resources, services, and spaces that meet the unique needs of these communities.
3. Cultural Competency Training: I will push for mandatory cultural competency training for students, faculty, and staff to increase awareness and understanding of diversity issues. This training will promote empathy, respect, and allyship, creating a more inclusive campus community.
4. Accessible Resources and Services: I will work to ensure that campus resources and services are accessible to all students, regardless of their background or identity. This includes advocating for accessible housing, healthcare, mental health support, and academic accommodations.
5. Recruitment and Retention: I will collaborate with university administration to implement strategies for recruiting and retaining a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. This includes targeted outreach efforts, scholarship programs, and mentorship initiatives.
6. Intersectional Approach: I recognize the importance of intersectionality in addressing diversity issues. I will strive to understand the interconnected nature of identities and experiences, and I will advocate for policies and initiatives that take an intersectional approach to promoting equity and justice.
7. Transparency and Accountability: I will prioritize transparency and accountability in all my actions as Vice President Diversity. I will regularly update the student body on my progress, seek feedback from diverse perspectives, and hold myself and others accountable for advancing diversity and inclusion on campus.
8. Collaboration and Engagement: I believe that meaningful change requires collaboration and engagement from all members of the campus community. I will actively seek input from students, faculty, staff, and administrators, and I will work collaboratively to implement inclusive policies and practices.
Together, we can create a campus community that celebrates diversity, fosters inclusivity, and empowers all students to thrive. Vote for me as your Vice President Diversity, and together, we will build a more equitable and just university for all.
