making sure you aren't just listened to but heard.
Hey all I'm Paul
I am a graduate from the school of arts and have been studying photography for the past 4 years, while I have been here, I have discovered a lot about myself and what it means to be neurodivergent. I understand how the up and downs of everyday life can affect students and would like to bring a better and more dynamic way of how things are run and making it more inclusive within the SU.
I am running for the top job of the SU because the University of Wolverhampton has taught me to aim big, miss small and take chances.
There are many thing that I feel can be improved upon to support students better and I want to hit each and every issue and problem head on as it happens to prevent this issues escalating, by facing this in a proactive way, this service can improve and adapt to the world we live in. The days of being nine to five are over and the SU has to move with it as we know some of the struggles that we all face together from food prices to accommodation standards doesn’t happen within office hours.
Some of the important changes that I want to bring in look so small on the surface but will have a huge valuable impact on the lives many neurodiverse students that not many other places of higher learning would have thought of. Such as having someone to help support with what would be considered little jobs that are often overlooked by but can cause a huge overwhelming impact. Those of us who are neurodivergent have the skills and the intelligence to succeed and get the work done, we just need a bit of help with the small things, and I want to change the way we help others so there is less embarrassment and more helpful interactions with positive engagements for all involved and helping the SU work in a more person centred approach.
There are still the minority groups within the university that feel uncomfortable about approaching the SU for help or even to find out what services are on offer that can support them. These individuals need more person-centred way for them to approach the university service without feeling pressure or judgement.
I have watched the SU over the years and have seen what it was, what it has become, and I know that with the right support and team it could become a great network of support for all students. I want to be able to lead the student union to be a fair and a strong tool that will be used to support not only the local community but what impact we can have on a national level. While looking it to causes that deserve some proper attention from a larger student body.
For the yearlong post I am going to make sure that you, the voting body, will not only be listened too you will be heard. I will be making sure that I can at all stages justify the pay band that goes with this role. And as a student myself I understand that issues arise at any time And where possible I will make myself available whether in person on campus or via email, so you know you have support when you need it. The SU needs someone with a bit of life experience and a lot of energy to kick start an institute into the 21st century, moving forward, operating hard charging leading by the front and no more hiding behind a desk in an isolated office. Those who know me and have seen me around campus, know this is truly who I am and that I am all about supporting those who need it.
