Hello, I am Andy East-Erskine (Andy Wish) and I would like to be your Student Chair.
I am 56 years old, Married and live in Shrewsbury with my Wife and Border Collie Dog "Riley" #thelifeofriley.
I am currently studying a Under-Graduate Degree in History & War Studies.
In my life I have worked as a Professional Musician playing the Drums with Stars such as Rod Stewart, Gary Barlow, Adam Ant, Atomic Kitten, Boyzone, Kylie, East 17, Liberty X and The BBC Studio Orchestra to name but a few, Stage name Andy Wish www.andywish.co.uk
I currently teach part-time in my Home Drum Cave Studio with 20 students. I also in my working life alongside my Music career served in the Royal Engineers, H.M. Forces, Built up a Decorating and Maintenance Business into a National Company with 160 staff and 3 regional offices. Set up and managed two Music promotions companies East Entertainment and Mad Rabbit Promotions. Sadly, these Entertainment businesses had to close due to the financial crash in 2008. For ten years I also worked as a Consultant to the Social Housing Sector, therefore, I am qualified to help and advice with accommodation problems.
I have my own band called "Wish": www.wishmusic.co.uk our last Album was called "Strangest Places" and was released in 2000. This week we have released a Single: No Guts No Glory in aid of The British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal available on Spotify or Youtube. We are currently completing our new album "Magic" and hope to release this within the next 2 years. I also have played in lots of different bands/groups at a local and national level, playing for Parties and weddings etc. I currently play in a Wet Wet Wet Tribute Band "The Wets", "Denim" a 70's& 80's Tribute Rock Band and "Add-Libb" a Jazz Big Band. I trade under the name Wish Music www.wishmusicltd.co.uk I also own and run Europes largest Drum Music Website www.drumsheetmusic.co.uk
Having all the above real-life experience of Business and Entertainment I feel makes me an ideal candidate to help your Student Union move forward and start holding regular fun and exciting Events, Shows, Comedy nights, and Music Gigs. I will endeavour to put Wolverhampton back on the University Tour circuit which it hasn't sadly been part of for a number of years.
I have a personal connection with Mental Health problems and would do my utmost to put in place all the help and support necessary to stop and prevent our students experiencing more problems instead of getting the help and support they need. I would actively encourage Mental Health awareness and hold events to help all students do their bit to make Mental Health talked about instead of it being a taboo subject. I therefore propose to start a New Campaign called #LetsTalkAboutMH with the appropriate finance to make this a success.
I also propose to start organizing taster sessions for all Students, bringing in experts from local clubs to hopefully encourage Students to have more fun involving themselves in new pursuits, therefore increasing substantially the amount of Clubs the University has. This campaign I would call #GiveItAGo. With the right funding I am sure this would be a success and enrich the lives of all Students going forward.
I promise to hold your Students Union Representatives to their promises and commit to being a voice for you at all levels.
I will be available and approachable to all Students and promise to help and support the Union with doing its best for all.
