      # LET’S CHANGE AND REVOLUTIONISE THE SYSTEM

SELF INTRODUCTION

I am Sreekanth Kanamal, and I am studying master’s in mechanical engineering in university of Wolverhampton. I am born in India which is a diverse country, and I am standing as a candidate for the role of Vice president Diversity in the student’s union election this year.

What made me to choose this role?

I am always interested in providing service to others and treat people equally. I find that there are students from different ethnic group studying in our university and there is only little attempt in holding these people together and I am afraid of the popularity of the student’s union it needs to be improved. I am fully satisfied in organizing events and making people happy. I am a good listener and like to solve issues. I don’t want anyone to left behind in their progress because of their ethnicity, religion, country and physical and mental nature. I am strictly against racism and would like to remove this from university itself. I have an experience in treating diverse groups from my home country itself.

I am an international student, and I am currently residing in an accommodation in Broad street in Wolverhampton and easily accessible to all students in city campus and my course is at Telford campus.

What will I bring to this role?

I am here to represent diversity and equality issues and fulfilling the overall commitment of our student’s union to our wider student body including International and EU students. I will ensure that all the students of various diverse groups are equally represented and promoted in the academic, research and general wellbeing issues. I will monitor diversity issue on a national and local scale and getting solution to these issues in the right beginning. I will not let any diverse groups to be badly felt about the student life, academic progression, career support, sports support, and cultural events.

I will implement the following when I get elected to the vice president diversity position of the student’s union-

Providing more support for the mental issues and well being of the students personally and collectively with the help of university staffs.

Promoting and starting of the new cultural programmes of the different ethnic and religious groups like bhangra academy which is successfully implemented by the student’s union.

Including more engagement events in the course time other than only running programmes in the welcome week of the course which will increase the sense of belonging in the entire course duration.

Including more surveys on the deeply and widely felt problems on a university decision and arrive at a solution.

Ensuring more support to the LGBT community and reviewing whether they are treated equal.

Giving more support to the English language skills of the international students by conducting events for improving the listening, grammar and vocabulary skills and increase the support in foreign languages wherever they feel necessary.

Increasing the publicity of the student’s union through any means and students must feel connected to the UWSU.

I will be visible to all the students and attend meetings and discussions regularly.

I will persuade the students union representatives and university authorities to take an action on these following issues-

24 hours working time of the library.

Re assigning course calendar and timetable based on the specific needs of the religious and diverse groups.

Rescheduling of the university bus timetable according to the lecture starting and ending time of the students of various courses in other campuses.

Providing more support to the sports infrastructure, players and especially disability sports and to reduce the hourly payment for engaging in social sports and giving more publicity to the social sports through including more events.

Developing infrastructure for proper care of small pets of the students because they need proper attention.

Researching of the course calendar according to the necessary learning outcomes and situations of the students.

Review of the COVID-19 regulations inside the university and try to give financial aids to the students facing hardship due to part-time job loss.
