Equality for some is not equality for all!

My name is Zaynab Abdulazeez and I will be running for the position of Diversity Officer. I am currently a final year student studying Event and Venue Management. I am currently the Vice President of the African and Caribbean Society (ACS), and from this role I have been able to gain a better understanding of diversity as well as the stigma and stereotypes that minorities face and how I can impact a change.

I plan on dedicating my time and full focus on improving how diversity is implemented within the university. I will apply my skills to becoming the voice for underrepresented student groups such as BAME, LGBT+, Mature, international and students living with any form of disability.

Till this day and age people still do not realise that not all disabilities are noticeable so I would like to further educate students on how to ensure that they do not cause offence.

The University currently has multiple diverse societies, and I would like to get them to work closer together so we can take a step foreword in allowing the university to becoming more diverse.

As Diversity Officer, I will do my best to make services more available for those who need support by.

1.    Providing more space and volunteers /professionals to improve existing services in University.

2.    Raising awareness about platforms with the main goal of providing emotional support to those in need of it such as Nightline and Samaritans. Students can contact them with issues that may affect their work and time at university such as being homesick, stressed or experiencing financial troubles.

3. Giving international students a chance to make friends and get to know other students before they join the university.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences

Vote for me to bring change.
