MR MATTHEW HARCOURT-POOLE

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

In my previous employment as a section manager with the Waitrose, I represented my branch first as partner voice representative and then as a Waitrose councillor. My role in both positions was to represent my peers at a branch and business level, voicing their opinion on various matters.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

As a mature student I am keen to make the most of my time at University, I believe that my previous experience and skills enable me to offer something to fellow students and lecturers. This role is a chance for me to utilise those skills and make a difference along the way.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face in your faculty and how would you try to help resolve it?

I believe that consistency in teaching is the biggest issue that students face. To help to try and resolve this I would encourage students to feedback to module leaders and lecturers more frequently, enabling change that benefits them as well as future students.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

During my time at Waitrose, as a councillor, I worked with the senior management team of the business to implement a new branch structure, which benefitted my peers as it enabled more support at a shop floor level, creating a better working environment and a more enriching experience at work.
