Candidate for the position of Faculty of Science and Engineering Rep (Science)

Michael Olaniyi

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

I have been a course rep for year 1 and 2 of the MPharm course and I am also one of the executives that head the Summit Christian society - with these experiences I have had the opportunity to lead, voice and direct actions and opinions, all to benefit peers/members.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

I am interested in this role as I see it as a new challenge and an opportunity to be a bigger voice for my faculty. This role will also allow me to gain more experience in leadership, communicative and prioritising skills.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face in your faculty and how would you try to help resolve it?

Attendance, at this moment, has been an issue. To solve it, I would propose an incentive for students to want to attend more e.g. attending 80% of classes = 5% of your grade for the academic year.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

I had to plan, organise and initiate a workshop of sorts to give a mock examination for my colleagues before the real thing was due. It was of importance as it gave my colleagues the chance to see where they needed to improve before the day, thereby lending a hand in their successes.
