MISS GEMMA GESSEY

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

I have been a Course Rep, Faculty Rep for FEHW for 2 academic years where I won Faculty Rep of the Year 2016/2017. My current role within the SU is Chair of Union council, so within all the roles I have always ensure the student voice is heard and is raised in the correct forum to the right people.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

I have been an active member of the SU since 2014, I know their values, I understand how powerful the student voice is as per my current and previous roles. I make sure the student voice is understood and actions are taken to enable students to  make a difference.

How would you engage with students before representing them nationally at NUS Conference?

As Chair of Union Council, I will hear feedback from Faculty Reps and Full-time officers what students want. I also have good working relationships with many of the SU staff, so I can gather feedback from them as well regarding students. As well as face-to-face conversations, questionnaires, surveys

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

Over the past 2 years as Faculty Rep, I have made progress within the Faculty: I have help to start new courses, change modules, timetabling. I have had a postitive impact with students, helping them with concerns, be the voice of the Faculty. Students come to me knowing I will make a change.
