RUQIYA ALI

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

I have worked a lot with the new students by volunteering in connectors, welcome week and pre-inductions. As this already helped boost my confidence, it also gave me the time to get to know the new students and understand their worries and concerns.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

I am aware there are a lot of issues concerning our faculty and I believe I'm a good listener hence very understanding. As an approachable person I feel like most students would come to me and explain what problems they are facing.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face in your faculty and how would you try to help resolve it?

Issues vary from each student's needs, the most common include: disability priority not being met to the right standard, dissertation printing credit being paid fully by students. I feel like I would be able to make my point across to the appropriate source to find solutions or alternatives.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

Students usually leave early when the lecturer comes in late affecting their grades. So if the lecturer comes in late I would tend to call the module leader and ask how far he/she is, and then reassure the class.
