Candidate for the position of Postgraduate Engagement Officer

Image for MR CRAIG BIRCH

MR CRAIG BIRCH

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

Engaging with and resolving the needs of many individuals from a range of backgrounds when I have been a: Society Chair; business owner; martial arts teacher. In all these roles I had to understand the needs of others so as to plan and execute effective solutions.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

Once I heard that the position had been empty for several years, and that the position is actually of quite some significance especially with the growing number of postgrad students, I saw that there was a serious need that I could fill.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face and how would you try to help resolve it?

As a postgraduate student, my biggest issue so far has been misinformation and lack of communication, from enrolment to registration. With my acquired knowledge of what I should've been told, I would urge those University staff to learn it too, offering to walk them through the correct processes.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

5 years ago I created the Gaming Society in order to bring people together at a centralised place and time where they could engage in games of all kinds, as opposed to what was the chaos of trying to arrange people to go to each other's houses all over the place at different times.
