Candidate for the position of Faculty of Arts Rep (Performing Arts)

MR JACOB MASON

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

I have worked in education for several years prior to beginning university.  I have also been a Course Rep for three years, both here and at BCU.  As a result, I have the unique advantage of being both a student and a member of staff.  I have experience of training and management positions.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

After being a Course Rep, this felt like a natural progression.  I do not want to merely complete my degree, but want to have a positive impact on the University, both for current and future students.  Both by recognising areas of strength, and identifying areas of opportunity within the University.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face in your faculty and how would you try to help resolve it?

Currently the room booking system is an issue within the Performance Hub.  A solution that both works with existing timetabling systems, and one that allows more flexible and ad hoc bookings is required.  If a room is empty and not booked, it should be available there and then.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

I made a suggestion to lecturers regarding linking modules from the Music and Music Tech degrees.  This would give both cohorts beneficial experience that would assist them later post degree, whilst not requiring major changes to either modules.  The recommendation is currently being evaluated.
