Candidate for the position of Faculty of Science and Engineering Rep (Science)

MR CONNOR LEVERS

What experience do you have that will help you in this role?

As well as being a course rep in my first year, I was previously a Senior NCO in the ATC and currently President of a biological society. All three of these positions have required myself to both listen to those I am leading and then formulate a solution at the higher level.

What made you want to nominate yourself for this position?

I enjoyed being a course rep and wanted greater influence to action the issues raised by fellow students. I am the person for the job as I have experience in communicating vertically and horizontally within and outside the academic setting and believe I can improve the faculty for the better.

What do you think is the biggest issue students face in your faculty and how would you try to help resolve it?

I believe there is a lack of community spirit within the faculty. Although this may seem academically irrelevant, a closely knit student body will improve the quality of the student experience. This issue would be resolved via promoting collaboration between the different courses within the faculty.

Describe a time you created change or had a positive impact that benefited other people.

As president of The Order of the Helix, I have brought together students from numerous courses within the FSE, which has then resulted in a small but significant increase in community spirit. This shows that I am already working towards solving one of the biggest issues in my opinion we are facing.
