Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Proactive, Dedicated & Passionate

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?

Over the last 3 years I’ve had an increasing amount of experience in the Students’ Union working with the Engagement Team and with numerous societies. I have a vast knowledge of what societies and teams have to offer students – and I would love the chance to put my valuable knowledge back into the Students’ Union for your benefit!

My main aims are:

VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE: I will work closely with the Active Volunteering Centre and local companies to offer students more specific volunteering opportunities: tailored to fit each student so that you can get valuable working experience.

SPORTS TEAM DEVELOPMENT: Developing a University Sports Team Experience for schools that are partnered with the University of Wolverhampton so that teams can get valuable coaching experience. I also want to get more recreational teams this year with the prospect of gaining more BUCS points in the future.

“HAVE A GO” EVENTS: I would like to organise bi-monthly events in the Students’ Union to give a variety of new experiences to our students. Such events could include sports sessions, sign-language and deaf awareness, first-aid sessions and arts and crafts sessions, just to name a few.

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Positive, Pro-Active & Attentative

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?

One of the main reasons I am taking part in these elections is due to high recommendation from my peers. I believe this is due to my level of dedication, charismatic attitude and ability to manage academic studies while playing a key role for the Universities American Football team.

Within the training sessions and games that took place I took the role of Defensive Team Captain, enabling me to demonstrate my leadership skills on and off the pitch. My efforts were rewarded at the 2012/13 annual sports awards being named ‘Most Outstanding Player’ of the year, quickly followed by me being elected to be on the committee for American Football.

Along with this I have also played host to a number of student events privately organised and funded myself including a successful Valentines event for the ACS. Living in student accommodation has granted me the ability to pay close attention to popular trends amongst student activities. However, some voices are not being herd and even more so with the sports team’s being based at Walsall's sporting campus.

This being said there are a few things I feel need changing for future progression;

- Greater society awareness

- Sports and Society gatherings

- Volunteer opportunities

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?

Is there something wrong at the SU? Who thinks fire alarms in halls need re-designing? Do you ever think ‘I wish something was different?’ Well, so do I.

You can’t be a student without a student experience. This should be the best time of our lives! We can change our student experience together. It could be the essential funding for your favourite society, or the annoying automatic doors in the SU. Whatever it is, change is the way to improve our experience. I will always be available, right here in the SU, or on Facebook, so we can start to make those changes happen.

I want to give sports societies a stronger chance to become full teams. I want to streamline the society support fund and make it easier for societies to access financial grants. I want to help you set up new societies and keep them going for more than a year. These are just some of the issues I am told about on a daily basis during my work at Squeezebox in the SU, because people want change. If you want change, I want change.

Name: Eloise Cropp

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Confident, Enthusiastic & Dedicated

Why should students vote for you & how would you change thier student experience for the better?

My name is Eloise Cropp and I will be running for Student Experience Vice President.  Through working at The Thread student newspaper for the last year I have learned how the Students’ Union runs and how students feel about their SU.

As Vice President, I will make it my mission to get students involved in SU activities and event by holding better events throughout all campuses. This includes re-opening of the venue bar more frequently and planning low cost trips to broaden the experiences available to our students. Including site-seeing for international students and international trips for our home students.

I will also make more effort to link all our campuses together, so that our Campuses in Burton, Telford and Walsall are not overlooked when events are being planned and co-ordinated. I believe students aren’t aware enough of societies. Societies also need more funding to allow the running of events and purchasing of essential equipment. If given extra funding, societies could promote themselves, get more student involvement and become better established.

Sports societies need more support. We have some fantastic teams that participate regularly in competitions and are successful. With the extra support provided for these teams, I hope to create a greater interest in the different sports events with more students participating and spectating.

Lastly as Vice President I will find more volunteering opportunities better suited to students’ degrees to help more students get real work experience before they leave, increasing their opportunities and job prospects for after university.
