Name: Sola Ebenezer Akinwale (Success)

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Experienced, Focused & Caring

Why should students vote for you & how would you change their student experience for the better?:

I am Ebenezer Olusola Akinwale and I am running to become the President of the Students’ Union. I am a PhD student and have been involved with the Students’ Union as a Student Representative.

Our University has been missing for a long time on the league table and the story going around about the University is not the best. Now, we know how much impact a University’s reputation has on a graduate’s prospects. It is my aim, therefore, that our University be held in higher regard, and that our degree be worth more in the public eye and job market: putting the University of Wolverhampton back on the map; giving your certificate more value.

Your vote will avail me the opportunity to achieve this. My goal is broken down into the following objectives:

-Improved communication to sort out known student-to-supervisor/lecturer issues (including lecturers’ leaves that affect students)

-Looking into accreditation issues with certain courses

-Greater involvement with the National Union of Students

-Representation at all levels and all campuses

-Creating a platform in which all students can make contributions on how to make sure we all get better satisfaction from the academic staff

- Enhance students' employability

- Lobby the university for electronic forms of assessment, marking and feedback

- Raise the profile of the SU not only internally, but externally to the local community

- Ensure that all internal services are responsive to students' needs

- Improve the offer of the SU at other campuses, particularly Walsall and Telford including TNE

I have been a student at the university for a few years and I see that the university needs improving.  Without students there would be no University, which is why I consider them to be the most important aspect of the university. From my experience at Wolverhampton University we can certainly make improvement and I want to be an active part of that improvement process. My experience within Wolverhampton University has taught me many lessons; I wish to use these lessons to help improve the learning experience of students regardless of what they are studying. My main aim is to provide greater student support and guidance and help to improve their education and experience at Wolverhampton University. I pride myself on being honest, open, and easy to talk to.

Name: Issic Romel (G8)

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Loyal, Jolly & Hardworking

Why should students vote for you & how would you change their student experience for the better?:

Hello folks my name is Issic Romel and I am running in the elections to be your President. I am currently in my final year of my undergraduate Law degree (LLB Honours). I won the elections in 2013 through your support and currently serving you as City Campus Officer in where I experienced that there is a lot to be done which has made me go further and opt for this position.

I am a student as well and just like all of you, I came across several hurdles within the university over the past three years of my studies, be it social life, studies, IT support, lectures, fines, late submission of assignments, so on, hence I now wish to work with your support to move the hurdles out of the way and stand UNITED.

I propose we create a whole new ''VIBE!!'' throughout our Student Unions each receiving equal attention so that students from all three campuses can benefit. Students are the priority; we want an SU that caters for the needs and requirements of all students ensuring that you receive support, opportunities, an amazing social life and a place anyone can make friends, as that is what we feel a student union should be about.

My policies

•             Improve the entertainment program on all three campuses

•             Address the issue of Car Park or more parking space around the university

•             Extended days for 24 hour library much prior to all school assessments

•             More IT resources

•             Work on Improving marking system for re-sits

If elected I will do my upmost to ensure every students voice and opinions are heard.

Name: Abhishek Dicholkar (Aim High)

Why should students vote for you & how would you change their student experience for the better?:

My name is Abhishek and I want to be your next Students’ Union President! I am a 2nd year B.eng Civil Engineering Student (HONS). I have been involved in sports, societies and the Students’ Union since I started in University of Wolverhampton 2011. During that time I have been Events and Activities officer, International Student Officer, Best Mate Team Leader, Best Mate and Currently Faculty Rep for Science and Engineering.

My Roles in SU

-      Events and Activities officer 2011/2012

-      Best Mate  2011/2012

-      International Student Officer 2012/2013

-      Best Mate  2012/2013

-      Faculty Rep for Science and Engineering 2013/2014

I would also like to reform the highest-decision-making body of the union, which is made up of elected students. I do not feel it is inclusive enough and would like to review whether non-elected members could have a vote as well as making the meetings shorter and held more regularly to encourage wider student participation and engagement.

So far I think I have proven myself to be valuable member of the team and my experiences in the Student Union as a part-time officer and faculty rep, have helped me gain invaluable insights into how to best lead the Student Union in an efficient and effective manner. Given the opportunity, I feel I can make great contributions to the Students’ Union for the current and University of Wolverhampton students. I am hard working and committed and dedicated to build a brand.
