School of Social, Historical and Political Studies Updates

Weekly Update 20/05/2021

Hey folks!

I hope you are all doing well and are keeping safe.

My studies are now at an end and I have been taking the time to reflect after a very difficult year and a half. I have also begun preparing for my upcoming Computer Science Master's degree - a new adventure for me which I am looking forward to! I hope that all of your studies have been coming along well and that you are looking forward to a summer break. It is looking like we may be opening up and getting back to some form of normality, so fingers crossed for this.

I wanted to provide you with an update on what I have been doing over the past few weeks so please see below:

  • A student has contacted me stating that their internet timed out in the process of submitting an assignment on CANVAS. The submission page now states ‘Late’. This has now been resolved and the student will not be marked down after I liased with Course leadership.
  • I have read through my latest e-mails relating to student issues and I am now all caught up on these.
  • I have checked through the Microsoft Teams chat channel for any messages and I am now all caught up on these.
  • I have contacted some of the student WhatsApp groups that I am in to make students aware that I am working today and am available to assist with anything they need.
  • I have contacted the School Rep. WhatsApp group to let them know that I am working today and can assist with anything they need.
  • I have attended the School Rep/Academic Officer meeting where we discussed student concerns around campus.
  • I have attended the sports facilities meeting. Plans are being made to renovate the sports facilities on campus and I have given an early input into this.
  • I have discussed a course content query with a Course Rep.
  • I have had a meeting with the head of SSHIPS to discuss student concerns around campus.
  • I have updated the School Council action log and this is now available to Course Reps. on Microsoft Teams.
  • I have been checking in with various students who have previously brought me concerns to see how they are.

And that's it from me folks. If you need anything, please drop me an e-mail: My work contact e-mail is Sydney.Cooper@wlv.ac.uk.

Take care everyone!

Kind Regards,

Syd
