School of Social, Historical and Political Studies Updates

Weekly Update 23/03/2021

Hey Folks,

I hope you are all doing well and are keeping safe! Today marks a year since the U.K went into the first National Lockdown. There will be a minute's silence at 12:00 Midday which I would all encourage you to participate in. I myself shall be doing this and reflecting on the hardships of the past year as well as honouring and remembering all those we have lost during the pandemic. I think as a nation (as well as students) that we have done exceptionally well to come this far and I believe that it has made us stronger as human beings. Although it may not feel like it lately, I believe that when we look back on this in a few years time, we will recognise that it has taught us how to adapt and grow as human beings.

If you do feel that things are getting to you with everything going on, please don't feel like you have to endure this alone. The University offer Wellbeing support and further information is available here: https://www.wlv.ac.uk/current-students/student-support/student-support-and-wellbeing-ssw/

I shall also leave my contact e-mail below, so feel free to get in touch if you would just like a chat or if there is anything you need and I shall do my best to assist you.

I have been working today and here is my update:

  • I have read through and checked my latest e-mails in relation to any student issues and I am now all caught up on these.

  • I have read through the latest Coronavirus updates from the University ready to pass this information onto students as and where necessary.

  • I have checked through the Microsoft Teams chat channel for any messages relating to student issues.

  • I have contacted some of the various Student WhatsApp groups I am a member of to make students aware that I am working today and available to assist if anyone has any issues or concerns. I have heard nothing as of yet and have not been made aware of any issues.

  • I have contacted the Course Rep. WhatsApp group that I am in to check in with the reps and see if there is anything I can help with.

  • I have spoken to a student yesterday who wishes to change their current career choice once they have graduated. I have informed them that the University offers a career advice service which I have provided them the website page  link to and advised that they can offer a consultation via conference call or e-mail.

  • I have updated the Microsoft Teams School Rep. Chat where I have posted a message to check in with the Course Reps. and to let them know I am here if they need anything.

  • I have circulated the details surrounding the S.U Awards via the Microsoft Teams chat and the WhatsApp Groups I am in. Please see further information here: https://www.wolvesunion.org/awards/

  • I have checked over the previous council minutes to see if there is anything further I can update in advance of the next School Council meeting - there is nothing further from me to add.

  • I have updated my School Rep. Log.

And that's it for today's update folks!

Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to chat or if there is anything you need: My work contact e-mail is: Sydney.Cooper@wlv.ac.uk.

Stay safe everyone and I shall hopefully see you all soon.

Kind Regards,

Syd
