Weekly Update 23/02/2021

Hey Folks,

I hope you are all doing well and are keeping safe. We have recently received an update from the Government and now have a roadmap out of the Lockdown. This is definitely positive news and more and more people are getting vaccinated every day - we now have something to work towards. I have already arranged my haircut so fingers crossed things go to plan!

I have also been working today and wanted to provide you all with an update on what I have been doing:

  • I have read through and checked my latest emails relating to student issues and I am now all caught up on these.

  • I have read through the latest Coronavirus updates from the University ready to pass this information onto students as and where necessary.

  • I have checked through the Microsoft Teams chat channel for any messages relating to student issues. I am now all caught up on this.

  • I have contacted some of the various Student WhatsApp groups I am a member of to make students aware that I am working today and available to assist if anyone has any issues or concerns. I have heard nothing as of yet and have not been made aware of any issues or concerns - no news is good news!

  • I have contacted the Course Rep. WhatsApp group that I am in to check in with the reps and see if there is anything I can help with. I am still currently awaiting replies from them.

  • I have posted a message in the Student Voice Microsoft Teams Chat checking in with the Course Reps. and also making them aware of the Pandemic Hardship Fund (I have posted the link). I have requested that Course Reps. push this out to students so that they can get some assistance should they require. I have also posted my contact e-mail and asked if they identify any students who do need support to let me know. Further details can be found here if you would like to apply or know more: https://www.wlv.ac.uk/apply/funding-costs-fees-and-support/financial-support/dennis-turner-opportunity-fund/

  • I have received a scam e-mail claiming that I need to click a link otherwise my e-mail account will be shut down. Please be aware of this and do not click any links from suspect e-mails. Due to the pandemic, online fraud and scams have spiked massively, so pleaase exercise caution when viewing e-mails. If it looks suspect, it probably is.

  • I have started to type up my FASEC (Previously FAEC) report ready for the upcoming meeting. If you have anything you would like me to raise or take to the meeting, please let me know. I shall leave my contact e-mail below as per usual.

  • I have checked in with a few students who I have assisted over the past few weeks to see how they are getting on and if there is anything else I can assist with. No issues.

  • I have spoken to a HND student on my course. After speaking to another HND student recently, it was stated that HND students may be finding it difficult this year as this is the only year of University they are doing which is all remote. I have reached out to check in and see if I can assist.

And that's it for today's update, folks!

Please feel free to reach out if you require any assistance or would just like to chat and say hello. My contact e-mail is: Sydney.Cooper@wlv.ac.uk.

Take care everyone and please stay safe!

Kind Regards,

Syd
