YOUR Identity, YOUR Voice, YOU Matter!

Hello! My name’s Zak, I’m a 2nd year Human Resources Management student and I’m running for VP Diversity at your Student Union for the 25/26 Academic Year!

A bit about me:

  • I am a current Course Representative for Human Resources Management at Level 5, and am currently acting as a Business and Human Resources Management Course Rep for all levels in an unofficial capacity.

  • I'm a part of the LGBTQIA+ Community and use He/Him and They/Them pronouns (with no preference either way).

  • If yapping was an Olympic Sport, I’d have brought back a gold for Team GB.

Why I'm Running for VP Diversity:

Why am I running? Well, I believe that everyone should have a voice when it comes to being able to express their truest selves and without having voices from all corners of society being represented you run the risk of developing an echo chamber that only amplifies the loudest, most prominent voices which unintentionally shuts out those who seek recognition.

What experience do I have? Prior to attending Uni I worked for a small HR Consultancy, there I held the position of HR Advisor specializing in Wellbeing, Diversity and Benefits where in it was my responsibility to support clients employees with developing adjustments around Disability, Religious Belief, Maternity/Paternity adjustment and At work social transition strategies & support just to name a few!

As a Course Rep, How do I operate? During my time as a Course Rep, I have acted with an open door policy, meaning any time a fellow student has needed my help they can reach out to me and I will help, if the issue fell within my responsibilities as a Course Rep I acted on it, and if it didn’t I would help them to find the person or team who could support them directly whilst still standing by the student to support them wherever I could.

My Goals as YOUR Vice President of Diversity

If I were to be elected as your VP of Diversity here at the University of Wolverhampton I would have two sets of goals to achieve during my time in office which are Continuing and Developing.

My Continuing goals involve carrying on the work of those who held the post before me whereas my Developing goals will revolve around cross-VP support from the Diversity post as a key point of diversity is maintaining intersectionality.

My Continuing goals are:

  1. Continue my Open Door support policy, whether that be;

    • Needing support or just a friendly ear to talk to!

    • To grow my understanding of the varying communities here at the uni and how best to support them.

  2.  Reinforce and expand upon the safe, welcoming and inclusive environment of my predecessors.

  3. Increase our cross-community understanding, whether that be LGBTQ+, Religion, Nationality & Heritage, Economic Background and many more!

My Developing goals include:

  1. Growing intersectional viewpoints between both the President and other Vice President roles.

  2. Reducing echochamber risks within the university.

  3. Actively communicating about Diversity concerns, queries and questions via public forum.
