The University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union represents and supports around 22,000 students across three main campuses. As Societies and Volunteering Coordinator your principal focus will be empowering students to establish and maintain effective societies and supporting them to enhance their employability.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • To build effective partnerships with student societies and deliver in-depth training and support to enable them to be viable, inclusive and well managed.
  • To implement the organisations strategic approach to society development and embed good practices.
  • To provide guidance to student society committees on student led activity, encouraging events that will engage students from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • To contribute to the management of budgets to include supporting societies to manage their society budgets.
  • To keep up to date with issues of best practice, relevant legislation and policies affecting student volunteers and student societies including training provision, and to work within these where relevant.
  • To supervise and assign tasks to student staff and volunteers. Ensure all volunteers have sufficient guidance to assess risk, considering appropriate duty of care in activities and to help them to lead on this activity.
  • Establish and maintain new partnerships to develop and deliver a wide range of opportunities/projects that are relevant to the needs of diverse student communities.
  •  Establish a series of activities to be facilitated at all campuses across the University sites.
  • To suggest evidence-based improvements to systems, services and structures.

The ideal person will

  • Be passionate about supporting students and student voice.
  • Promote and encourage a welcoming, positive, and inclusive culture.
  • Have experience of supporting or facilitating the work of students or volunteers.
  • Have an understanding and knowledge of the issues affecting participation in student activities.
  • Have previous experience of organising events.
  • Have the proven ability to undertake project management.
  • Be flexible, adaptable and have a positive and friendly disposition.
  • Ability to take a constructive and co-operative approach to solving problems.
  • Be able to work full time on site.
