Social media
Social media is one of your most useful tools when it comes to marketing your society. It is a quick and easy way to engage with current members, advertise events and show prospective students what to expect.
All societies should have a presence on social media, ideally across Facebook and Instagram. On Facebook, make sure your profile is a public page instead of a group, and make sure your Instagram page is public to help you reach more students.
Keep your page public
Post regularly
Share clear event details
Show what society life feels like
Using your society website page
Your society page on the Students’ Union website is one of your most important promotional tools. For many students, it may be the first place they go to find out who you are, what you do and whether they want to join.
Make sure your page is accurate, welcoming and easy to understand. A good society page should help a student quickly decide whether your society is for them.
Think of your webpage like your online Freshers Fair stall. Students should be able to understand what your society does, when you meet, how to contact you and how to get involved.

Upcoming events or activities
You can also set up events on the website, which will appear in the overall Students’ Union events list. There is also the option to add news articles.
Physical media
A well designed poster or flyer can help spread the word about your society, events and activities. You should not rely on posters as your only promotion, but they can be useful alongside social media and website updates.
The Students’ Union may be able to distribute your posters and flyers in the following areas, subject to availability.
Societies board
Display space in Students’ Union social spaces.
Poster frames

Flyer spaces
Flyers may be placed in SU spaces, Luna Lounge and the Welcome Desk area.
Important: You must gain approval from Jack Appleby in the Opportunities team before displaying physical media. Please leave any approved materials at the Students’ Union Welcome Desk.
Digital promotion
You can request for your content to be uploaded to the digital screens in the Students’ Union. With students regularly moving through the building, digital screens can be a great way to get noticed.

Stalls
Stalls are a great way to speak to students outside of your usual circle. You can request a stall in the Students’ Union, either near the Welcome Desk or in the Deli Moon Cafe, Monday to Friday.
To request a stall, email Jack and let us know when you want it, what your society is promoting and what you need. Please email at least a couple of weeks in advance so there is enough time to arrange support.

Designing your promotional materials
You do not need to be a graphic designer to create strong posters, social media graphics or digital promotion. There are lots of free and easy tools that can help you get started.
If you are working with the Students’ Union on a larger event or campaign, there may be an opportunity for the Students’ Union to support with promotional materials. Please email Marketing to discuss this further.
