Numerous people, including myself, have witnessed the public recycling bins being added into the general waste bins. Student Village is no longer being provided with clear bin bags for recycling, and I have witnessed the bin men collecting all the rubbish at the same time - no separation between recycling and general waste.

It's disgusting that recycling has stopped for no apparent reason. As an institution, it is shameful and unacceptable.

This university NEEDS to be recycling!

  • 11 Aug 2019: As of 2019, the University contracts out its waste management. All items can go in any bin and are separated at destination, not at source. No longer do you have to search for a bin for that wet-but-still-dry paper cup, the University will separate and recycle it for you.
    • This Idea is complete.

1:27pm on 29 Apr 19 @Roxanne O’Doherty: We shouldn’t wait for this to exist - let’s create it. We should start a society ourselves. If you’re up for it or anyone else for that matter, email me:

6:55pm on 24 Apr 19 We always make an effort to recycle in our accomodation, for it all to go into the same landfill site! There is no reason for the university to have stopped us from recycling and I agree that it is tragic that they aren't doing more to encourage students to recycle.

8:37pm on 23 Apr 19 I think we could do with a society dedicated to the environment - It would be great to do community litter picks, educate about recycling and promote environmentally friendly policies throughout the university.
