The SU is currently in profit (god knows how), they have a hell of a lot of money but city campus students don't get to see it. Assign new staff to build and promote a weekly pub quiz at city campus student union.

Weekly pub quiz at City Campus

This Idea for Change opened on 15 Feb 2019 and closed on 01 March 2019.

12 students voted on this Idea, giving a score of +16.

  • 17 May 2019: Unfortunately, the SU is undergoing restructure and the roles of Campaigns Developer and the Student Groups Advisor will no longer be in place come 17 May 2019; this is despite undertaking work on a pilot study to improve events and bar provision, combining several Ideas for Change, including a weekly pub quiz. This pilot was subsequently quashed by members of senior management. As such, those primarily involved in chasing and implementing this Idea will no longer be working here. We hope to pass this Idea along to another member of the Student Change team who will be able to take this Idea forwards and action it. We hope to provide further updates by 07 June 2019.
  • 10 Aug 2019: This Student Idea has expired as it did not meet the roll-over threshold for being worked on during the next academic year. This Idea had scored less than 30, and has not passed to the next academic year. #wolveschange

2:14am on 19 Feb 19 The SU has had an average annual profit of £21,401.50 over the past 6 years (not including the exceptional expense of £155,322 on refurbishments two years ago), peaking with a profit of £49,636 in 2014. The SU currently has £323,110 stashed away. In response to an earlier comment, it's not that "everything has to happen in the SU", it's that NOTHING is happening in the SU. And with figures like the above demonstrating that the SU clearly has funds left over that they should be using, there is no excuse for the SU being left empty. If there is a quiz run weekly for 6 months of the year - about right once Summer is out of the way, all our various other breaks and Career Development Week and whatever else - the SU would have £823.13, using the averages provided above - to spend on each event without the SU running a deficit. That would be more than enough to pay a few staff members to run the bar and help with the event and enough to stock up the bar. You could literally give away the drinks for free all night and likely still not spend £823.13! But obviously that wouldn't be the case, people would be paying for the drinks and the SU would very likely make the whole amount back meaning that more events could be run. There is not a single excuse for why these events can't be run and there's a campaign now to challenge this and to fight for an SU that is led by students and works for students. If you want to get involved, we're in The Venue this evening, Tuesday 19th February, 17:00

7:59pm on 15 Feb 19 They're too expensive. SU charges £2 a pint. Maybe the students organising the pub quizes should make use of their student union?

7:01pm on 15 Feb 19 There is a pub quiz on every Thursday at the Royal London and every Wednesday at the Hogs Head. Both run by students! It would be a waste money and resources. Not everything has to happen in student union.
