Overview

Anonymous marking is where the student’s name is unknown to the marker. It can be used for written examinations and assignments. Usually the student will just put their student number on their paper. The main reason for introducing anonymous marking has been to reduce the possibility of bias (conscious or unconscious) when a piece of work is marked.

However, when a lecturer doesn’t know who the assignment belongs to when marking, they can’t give personalised feedback.

What do you think of this?

Is anonymous marking of coursework more important than receiving personalised feedback?
