KYLE PALMER

Now what is your dream? Because there is nothing you can’t do, so let nothing hold you back

We go to university to dream. University is the next step in our plan for life. University is the place we grow not just in education but in life, we learn key skills that help us through life. But sometimes obstacles get in our way. It may be finances, mental health, doubting our ability to succeed or maybe it’s our course choice. Whatever it is, these things are temporary. Once we know how to handle them, we can press towards our goals. Student union president should be someone who fights for you they fight for your dreams they fight for your aspirations they fight for you. I will fight for you I will fight with you I will fight on your behalf everything that I do the student union president is for you!

WHAT I HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED

  • In 2014 I was asked o consult the NHS South Central Clinical Commissioning Group regarding key issues young people were facing. Some of which were mental health, physical health and they felt speaking to their GP regarding personal matters. For the next three years, I was invited to attend regular NHS events advising them on how they can best shape their services for young people as we are the next generation and we will reap all decisions made today. Later on, in the year I was invited by Jack Dromey MP for Erdington to the House of Commons with a key focus on tackling issues young people face on a wider scale. A great success from the meeting was the revision of the zero-hour contracts.
  •  In 2015 I led a project for two years called YACM (Young Afro Caribbean Males) with St Basils, Mind, The Centre for Mental Health, Birmingham Rep Theatre and two community organisations, VOWS and First Class Legacy. We set it up with the sole purpose of improving mental amongst young black males within the Black Community. Many who attended were inspired and went onto setting up their social enterprise within the community.
  • In 2017 I organised an event with the West Midlands Police and 100 Young People aimed at improving the relationship between the Police and Young People. Everyone loved the event. We had a bbq, played football, took part in Zumba. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was beautiful and every body left a different person.
  • For the last two years I have been a B.O.D for St Basils Homeless charity advising how they can best engage with young people in their accommodations.
