Training for Reps
The SU provides the opportunity of training sessions for all Reps that have been appointed.
School Reps are trained at the beginning of the academic year (usually in one session by the SU’s Academic Vice President).
Course Reps are grouped by School, where possible, and trained in early November. The sessions are run by the Academic Vice President and the SU Executive, with contributions from the relevant School’s Student Liaison Officer.
If you’re a Rep and you’ve given your contact details to University staff, you will receive emails about the dates of the training sessions in the first few weeks of the academic year.
The training is likely to cover
• Communication skills
• Organisation skills
• Meeting skills
• Examples of issues that Reps may deal with
• Structure of support in Schools and SU
• How to feedback to students
• How to make the most of your experience as a Rep
