Introduction from the Academic Vice President

Dear Students,

I would like to introduce myself as your Academic Vice President for 2011/12. Last year I had the position of Welfare Vice President so I may be familiar to some of you. I ran for Academic as I’m enthusiastic to carry on the same level of hard work and dedication of representing students and their academic needs that the previous Academic Vice President displayed.

Your time at University should mean more than a getting a degree, it should be a life experience and chance to develop skills which you may not get from your degree. Becoming a course rep or school rep will give you the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, enhance your CV, and above all make a real difference to your course or school and improve the learning experience for other students. What better way to stand out to an employer when you graduate - it will definitely set you apart from someone with the same degree classification with no extra curricular activities!

The information online will provide a good insight into the Student Voice system and will be useful to those already in a representative role. A number of training sessions and events will be held throughout the year to help you progress and develop in your skills portfolio, with the chance to get a few freebies and maybe win a prize along the way. For those Course Reps that excel there is opportunity to be recognised for this both within the University with our annual award ceremony and nationally by the National Union Students.

So, read on and don't hesitate to get in touch with myself or Dave Anson (Student Representation Assistant) for all things Rep!

I hope you enjoy your role and take advantage of the many opportunities available to you as a rep. I look forward to meeting you at one of the rep training sessions.

Good luck with your studies and best wishes.

Ellen Marshall
