Your Voice
What is the Student Voice?
The Student Voice System is a partnership between the Students' Union and the University to ensure students' views are heard at all levels in academic life.
Students volunteer to become reps to further the interests of their student group. Reps attend committees and meetings with University staff to ensure that student feedback is incorporated into the running of Schools and courses.
How can I get involved in the Student Voice?
There are two ways in which you can get involved in the Student Voice: by becoming either a Course Rep or School Rep.
Course Reps
Course reps are appointed at the beginning of the academic year. Members of University staff will ask of any student is interested in becoming a rep for their course, module or level. If there is competition for a role, your peers will decide whom they want to represent them by an informal vote. However, if you volunteer for a role and no one opposes, you will represent students in your group for one academic year.
School Reps
School Reps form a vital link between the Students' Union and the Course Reps. They are elected by the student body around April each year, and their roles commence at the beginning of the following academic year for a period of one academic year. There are a minimum of three positions available per School.
There is now an Undergraduate School Rep, Postgraduate Taught School Rep and a Postgraduation Research School Rep in each School, some Schools also have may now have more than One Undergraduate School Rep such as LSSC or STech
If positions aren't taken up in the April elections, they will become available in the Students' Union Elections in the following October.
