Environmental Officer: Sue Webster

Hi to all new students!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and hope that you will soon feel at home at Wolverhampton University. I’m Sue Webster the Environmental Officer for 2011/12. This is my second term in office and now I aim to do more this year.

My plans for the year are to make our University a green and environmentally friendly place. I’ll be encouraging students and staff to recycle and not throw away, to use recycled paper - as I know that a lot of paper is used and discarded, so using recycled paper can help reduce waste and protect resources.

I would also like the shop to stock recycled paper and the refectory to go completely Fairtrade in all it sells, so I’ll be tackling them about this. I would like classrooms, lecture theatres and refectories to have bins for recyclable and non-recyclable items and to make sure energy saving light bulbs are in every room in the Halls of Residence.

Finally, I’d like to encourage students to be involved in the SNAP IT OFF  campaign, switching off all unwanted lights, computers (etc) to save energy and money and to do our bit in reducing climate change.

If you have any ideas on environmental issues or want to know more, simply send me an e-mail.
