Environment
The Students’ Union is really coming on leaps and bounds on the environmental front. Before last year we'd run the odd environmental campaign, but there were no real efforts to green the Union itself. Then, last year we joined NUS's Green Impact Students' Unions programme, and we haven't looked back since! Here are some of the things we've done since we joined:
• Introduced the part-time role of Environmental Officer (filled by Sue Webster this year) on the Executive Committee. If you would like to contact Sue just drop her an email at: environmentalofficer@wolvesunion.org
•Gained membership on University environmental committees; the Carbon Core Management Group and Sustainability & Environmental Group.
•Achieved Bronze standard in the Green Impact Students’ Union
• Had an environmental/energy audit of the Students’ Union undertaken to find out how well we’re doing and where we need to improve
• Held Green Group meetings, which allow Students’ Union staff and Officers and students to discuss ideas on when environmental projects/campaigns and events the Union could be looking into
• Started holding a Green Week each February.
• Applied to be part of an NUS (National Union of Students) bid for funding for a Campus Growing Project.
If you’d like to get involved in any of the Union’s environmental campaigns and activities, please send your details to the Democracy Support Officer, Hazel Monger (who is co-ordinating our GISU bid), on democracy@wolvesunion.org.uk who will make a note of your details and get in touch as soon as any opportunities arise.
