Union Statement on July 2007 Smoking Ban
As of 1st July 2007 all public venues in England became subject to a smoking ban. All of the Students' Union's facilities, including its' bars, are covered by this ban.
With this in mind, the Students' Union approached the University, its' landlord, asking for permission to allow provision for smokers. In response to this, the University has decided that it does not wish to make any changes to the no-smoking area on City Campus South. Therefore the Students' Union is unable to offer any provision for smokers' at City Campus.
We are hoping to work with the University towards a compromise solution. However, we are unable to make any promises for September.
We foresee the smoking ban will not pose any problems for customers at Walsall and Telford Campuses.
