The Athletic Union is the department of the Students' Union that represents, co-ordinates, administers and promotes sporting and recreational activities for students. We have over twenty sports clubs ranging from football, rugby and hockey to martial arts, climbing and volleyball.
The Athletic Union Office is located on the top floor of the Students' Union Building (WC Block) at SSPAL (Walsall) Campus. The office is open to all students between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday. You can call us on 01902 322022 or email us.
BUSA stands for British Universities Sport Association. BUSA is the governing body of student sport and enables all higher education institutes to compete under one umbrella. Teams competing in BUSA competitions are open to students from all of our sites. League matches are held on Wednesday afternoons.
ALL BUSA FIXTURES START WEDNESDAY 17th OCTOBER 2007
In addition to competing in BUSA competitions the Athletic Union also enters teams in local league competitions for Volleyball. This allows students who can't normally compete on Wednesday afternoons to compete at evenings and weekends.
The Men's Basketball Club competes in the National League Midlands Division, competing against senior teams from all over the region.
There is also the opportunity to compete nationally in a range of other sports, especially those in the BUSA programme such as Track & Field, Swimming and Tennis. Further details can be found in the Club pages.
Elite students also have the chance to represent the university at international competitions. Recently, Terri Dunning, a Sports Studies student represented British Universities at the World University Games in Bangkok, coming 4th in the 200m Fly Final.
All Athletic Union Clubs have weekly training sessions for which you need a Student Sports Card or Sport Studies Card to participate.
