Compensation Authority

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board is a Non-Departmental Public Body which administers the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme throughout England, Scotland and Wales for innocent victims of violent crime or those injured trying to prevent crime.

The Scheme allows compensation to be paid to someone who has been physically or mentally injured (or both), as a result of a violent crime. The injury must of happened while you were in Great Britain (England, Scotland or Wales) and must be serious enough to qualify for the minimum tariff award.

They may also pay compensation to close relatives and/or dependants if someone has died as a result of criminal injury.

The Board will decide whether they can make you an award under the terms of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.

To apply for compensation under the Scheme there is a three stage process:

Stage 1 Gather the information you need

Stage 2 Check the guidelines on how awards are made

Stage 3 Complete an application form
