If you have a legal problem, you may be entitled to a solicitor under the Legal Help Scheme, provided through the Legal Service Commission.
This means the government will pay part, or all of your solicitors bill depending on your income or savings; from March 1999 legal help is
now available for appeals even where the client was not in receipt of legal help for the original case.
The Students' Union Advice & Support Centre can supply useful telephone numbers and information about the legal aid scheme and local solicitors who operate free consultations.
The Advice and Support Centre also offers special access to a team of local solicitors who specialise in criminal and family law. They will provide a free 10 minute consultation for students by prior appointment.
