If you apply for Entry Clearance/leave to remain with an unconditional acceptance letter from the University then you should be granted leave for the length of your course plus four months to tie up your affairs in the UK and attend your graduation ceremony if you complete your course at a time of year that makes this possible. Students applying for an extension to their leave should note that if they are extending their visa to take re-sit a module then they will only be granted 2 months' extra leave at the end of their studies.
If you think that you were granted the wrong amount of leave when you applied for entry clearance then you can ask for it to be amended free of charge, once you arrive in the UK. Universities and Students' Unions can apply via the Entry Clearance Correction Scheme to have students visas amended if the entry clearance guidance was not followed correctly by the Entry Clearance Officer who issued visas.
RENEWAL OF VISAS/EXTENSIONS OF STAY
If your visa/stay expires before your course ends it will have to be renewed. All applications must be made using the FLR(S) form below.

If your visa runs out at the end of your course and you wish to stay in the UK to await your graduation, you will need to apply for extension to your stay as a visitor on an FLR(O) form.
FLR(O) form and Guidance notes
There are three ways to renew your visa. In person at a Public Enquiry Office, by posting the application yourself, or by using the postal batch scheme where The Advice and Support Centre posts your application for you. To make your FLR(S) application in person costs £500 and either postal service costs £295. To make a FLR(O) application in person costs £500 and by post costs £395.
If you have any questions about this at all, please seek advice from the International Adviser in ASC or at the International Office.
Further information on how and when to renew your visa is available in the ASC booklet "Extending your Student Visa".
