Registering with the Police

A stamp in your passport will tell you if you need to register. If you are a national of the Commonwealth or intend to stay in the UK for less than six months then you will not usually be required to register with the police.

Students have to register at the nearest police station dealing with Overseas Visitors Registrations.

For Wolverhampton / Birmingham students it is Police Headquarters, Overseas Visitors Lloyd House, PO Box 52, Colmore Circus Queensway, Birmingham, B4 6NQ. Tel : 0845 113 5000.

Office hours are: Mon, Tues, Thurs 9 am - 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm - 3.45 pm Weds 1 pm - 3.45 pm Friday 9 am - 1 pm.  See map below for directions.

Students based at the Telford Campus need to go to West Mercia Constabulary, Regional Head Quarters, Malinsgate, Telford. TF3 4HW. Switchboard number 0845 744 4888 ask to be connected to Telford Police Station then extension 5921.  See map below for directions.

No appointment is necessary at either police station but students attending Telford police station should go individually or in a group no larger than two.

The student must appear in person with two passport sized photographs, a letter from the University or their enrolment form, their passport, proof of address in the UK and the application which is available from the Advice & Support Centre. The form needs to be completed before you go to the police station. The fee is £34.00 at the time of writing. It is very important that you register with the Police within seven days of arrival.

If any of your personal details such as name or address, change during your studies, you must attend the Overseas Visitors section again and have the amendments made on your Police Registration Certificate.
