Household Insurance

Your landlord should have his/her house insured, which covers the building itself, and any fixtures, fittings, and contents that have been provided by the landlord.

Remember your personal possessions are not usually covered by any insurance that the landlord has.

Personal Possessions

It is essential to take out personal possessions insurance (whether you live in Halls, lodgings or private accommodation).

The rates are quite reasonable and many insurance companies cover your possessions whilst in transit.

Halls organise their policy through Endsleigh Insurancealthough we would not reccommend any one company as there may be others that are better suited to your individual needs and budget - shop around!

Also, if you parents have insurance, check whether their policy might cover you whilst you are living away and studying. Some policies do incorporate this and again, this may be cheaper that getting additional insurance of your own.

NOTE: If you will not be resident in the property over the vacation period it is wise to check with your insurance company that you will still be covered.

If you have a bicycle then you may have to take out separate cover for this as not many policies for personal possessions include cover for bicycles. Contact your local Crime Prevention Officer for details of having your bicycle postcoded so that if it is stolen and recovered by the Police, it is easily identifiable.

NOTE: The Students' Union nor the University cover you for loss or damage of personal possessions while on University property.

The contract you sign with the University includes an element of Contents Insurance. Contact Residential Services for more information.
