Halls of Residence

The University currently offers over 2,300 places in Halls of Residences. Courses are given quotas of places to allocate to first years.

Overseas students will be guaranteed places in Halls. However, Halls rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis, so to ensure you are in with a better chance of getting a room in the halls you want, be sure to get in there first!

If you move into Halls, the University will make you sign a contract for the whole academic year (37 weeks).  Signing a Halls contract will mean you are bound to the terms of that contract for the whole academic year. See section on Tenancy Agreements & Contracts for more information.

You read the contract thoroughly. If you are not sure about any of it, ask the University Residential Services Office or the Students' Union Advice and Support Centre for clarification.

You will not be given the opportunity to break this contract unless you end your studies with the University or otherwise are able to provide satisfactory proof of needing to leave. Speak to the Housing Adviser at the Advice and Support Centre for further clarification on what would be required should you have a genuine reason for requesting to leave your halls contract early.

You will also be required to pay a deposit of £250 that is returnable provided that no damage has been done and all rent has been paid.

Halls are usually paid for in 3 installments which usually coincide with the start of term. You will be invoiced termly and there is a discount for those who pay their whole years rent upfront.
