It is a legal requirement for a Landlord to ensure that the gas supply and appliances are checked by a CORGI registered installer every 12 months and a Gas safety certificate should be shown to each tenant to prove this (landlords are legally obliged to do this). Failure to comply with these regulations could lead to prosecution of the landlord or gas installer. Carbon Monoxide can be produced by any fossil burning fuel such as gas, coal and oil. The implications of not having gas appliances serviced correctly could be fatal.
If in doubt, ASK TO SEE YOUR GAS SAFETY CERTIFICATE!
DANGER SIGNS
Carbon Monoxide detectors are available on loan from the Advice & Support Centre. A £10.00 deposit is required which will be refunded on return. You then use this device for approximately a week and it will tell you whether or not you have Carbon Monoxide present in your home...It could save your life!
If you suspect Carbon Monoxide poisoning, visit your GP immediately and ask for a test.
SYMPTOMS
All CORGI registered installers should have an ID card, it will show a photograph of the installer, the name of the business and a list of the installers services. If the card is not shown you should be wary of allowing the installer to do the work before you have checked with CORGI - it is your own interest to do so!
You can search for your local CORGI registered installer via the CORGI website![]()
