Candidate running for Telford Officer

NORMAN DUNGWA

I have put myself up for the position of Telford Officer because back in Sixth Form in my first year I went up for election and I got the role of Entertainment Organiser which was a big role because I was in charge of everything entertainment wise that happened in our college. I helped organise various events; charitable events, gigs, auctions, and in 2006 we raised over 1500 pounds in 2 days for children in need.  In my second year at sixth form I became the President of my college where I was foreseeing all the events that were happening in college, this experience has made me gain courage in other areas of my life and it has also taught me to use my own initiative.  I was also founder member of the International Student Group and have represented the college at several events such as a civic reception by the Lord Mayor of Leeds.

I have been involved in a lot of voluntary activities such as acting as a mentor to help particular students overcome language and numerical difficulties and working in a disabled children’s playgroup.  Having recently worked in retail I have learnt to work under pressure with different people, learning to adjust quickly and cope with meeting new people everyday, this has also sharpened my social and communication skills. I feel this experience I have had in the past is vital in this role as I would be doing something that would be beneficial to the students as a whole.

I also believe I am a passionate and motivated individual and I am also excited at the prospect of helping other students enjoy their University life by taking on board their suggestions and putting them to good use.  I am looking forward to the opportunities, challenges and rewards this position has to offer.
