Language Lounge

The Language Lounge is back for 2012 -see you at one of our future sessions!

International and EU students can come and meet new people and sharpen up their English skills at our Language Lounge, every Friday between 1-3pm in The Lounge on City Campus. There'll also be free tea, coffee and biscuits on offer.

The Language Lounge, set up by our Executive Officers, is a service designed to support International Students with basic English speaking skills, so that they have the confidence to create dialogue with their tutors to get feedback and improve their grades.

It is also a perfect place to hone your language skills what ever country you are from.  Think of it as a chance to practice your English, French, Swedish, German, Italian, Punjabi ……or even brush up on your ‘yam-yam’.

By taking on a mentoring role, Home Students also benefit by being able to register their volunteer hours, which are converted at the end of the year into a certificate – excellent evidence of extra-curricular development that you can show to employers. If you are interested in taking part in the Language Lounge, take part in any of the following:

Colloquial English sessions - Learn the common slangs used in Wolverhampton and the West Midlands.

•  Language Exchange Partners - Swap languages with someone and help each other develop each others' languages.

Language and Conversational Tips - A chance to try out conversation techniques.  Learn what’s acceptable and what’s not. Develop your understanding of tense, time and even verb order. A chance to perfect your sentence structure.

University Language Courses - Learning a second language is a fun and rewarding way to broaden your knowledge and skills, and may give you the edge in an increasingly competitive job market. The University Language Department have a number of courses available that can be taken as a 20 credit module. Come along for information on these courses or for more information regarding University run courses, visit their website.

Come over just to listen in, meet people and enjoy a free cup of coffee and find out about the other services and activities that we have going on in the Students' Union.

Register your place by emailing Ken Harris, SU President, or simply pop over to the SU Activities Centre, on City Campus and meet us there.
