Academic Misconduct
All students are here for academic studies so it is important that we promote the academic systems in place. This year all dissertations will be scanned through plagiarism software. We understand that there are a number of issues around students understanding the consequences around cheating, collusion, referencing and group-work(aka committing Academic Misconduct). There are serious implications as a result of this that could ultimately lead to students being thrown off their course.
Why this campaign? – The University are revising the policies and punishments for cases of academic misconduct. The University are extremely good in catching out cases of academic misconduct and they do not take ignorance as an excuse.
We have been working with various University & Union staff to devise a series of excercises to get the message out, these include workshops, study skills sessions, videos and presentations. We have specialist advisors that can give confidential advice and support on all these issues. We are here to help!
Impact – Although it would be hard to measure if the numbers of cases have been impacted by this campaign it would be measurable by the increased of use of services such as study skills advisors. Ultimately this will help improve student grades and raise the quality of assignments.
