Housing
Once you know you have a place at the University of Wolverhampton and you are sure that you will be living away from home, you will need to ask yourself a few questions in order to assess your housing needs:
What area would you prefer to live in?
Do you want to share with others?
Do you want a house, flat, bedsit, lodgings or University Halls? and,
How much can you afford to pay in rent?
It is important that students make an effort to visit their campus town before the start of the academic year. For those who have left it too late looking for accommodation, you may have to accept a property that may be less desirable.
Unfortunately, it is sometimes the case that a house itself is up to a good standard, but the behaviour of the landlord leaves a lot to be desired. Always consider this when looking for somewhere to live.
www.wolverhamptonstudentpad.co.uk lists all properties currently available to let by accredited landlords. This means every one of these houses are owned, or managed by someone who has been Accredited by the local council and the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme (MLAS) which accredits and trains landlords in all aspects of renting and letting.
If you are looking to secure accommodation for the forthcoming academic year, before signing any contracts ot paying any deposit, come to the annual HOUSING FAIR held at the Students' Union buildings around the end of January each year at City and Walsall campuses.
This event offers the students a unique opportunity to meet with prospective landlords, arrange viewings, proof read contracts etc, all in non-pressured environment (no selling or contracts will be exchanged on the day) along with exhibitors from relevant external contributors from the Police, Local Authority, Hosuing Standards, Insurance and Banking organisations.
If you are a landlord, and renting to students – why not try Endsleigh for landlord insurance? They currently offer 10% off for student landlords, plus 120 days unoccupancy cover.
If you are a student, then you can still get cover for your possessions from Endsleigh.
